Being sick last week gave me some time to think and start working on some new exciting stencils for several group shows this summer. One of the most fun parts of what I do is working on the collages within each painting and I can’t explain what I mess I make but in the end some really nice things come out of the chaos and back pain. Searching around the web I ran into more amazing images from this years Art Basel (Switzerland). The first batch of photos are from Pharrell’s Blog (HERE) and the second batch are from the incredible talented Reyes (HERE). Check out the incredible collaboration between Takashi Murakami, Pharrell, and Jacob & Co. which is jaw dropping. The colors along take your breath away.
I don’t know how many layers of stencils this is or what the correct size is but I know one thing: LECKOmio is a MONSTER stencil artists. The scale of the multilayer stencil blows me away and the detail! Look at how accurate this stencil is compared to the original below. It is stencil art friends like this that push me and motivate me to make more beautiful stencils and continue to push stencil art to new heights!! Whoever says stencil art is not a “legit” art for can jump off a bridge right now.

PaperMonster’s Give and Take project is in its experimental stages. I am working on finding new ways to work on the street and share my work with others. “The Give and Take” project enables me to use the cities natural textures and decay as backdrops to my stencil art. I recently went into Brooklyn to do some test and get a stronger feel for what challenges lay ahead. 1st challenge= evey building is brown and dark. Where is the color? Spin That Thing opened this past Friday at the Famous When Dead Gallery to a fantastic crowd interested to see how urban artists had used the platform of vinyl records as a canvas. This past weekend marked the first Urban Arts Festival (HERE) in New Brunswick which brought together amazing outdoor activities for kids and art forms including breakdancing, poetry, and a wonderful mural project/workshop which was put together by Albus Cavus (HERE). PaperMonster along with Will Kasso (HERE) , Leon Rainbow (HERE) and Aja Washington (HERE) were invited to participate and lead the mural project by sharing some of their talents painting on panels and their knowledge of graffiti, stencil art, collage, and painting with the children and families that came out for the festival. I wanted to attempt some pasting and collage work that I had never done in an outdoor piece and everything turned out great.

I am really looking forward to using this particular stencil on a canvas very soon. PaperMonster-Detail I was very suprized how well the stencils held up. One of my favorite photos of the day. I was standing in the street and he just kept standing infront of the pannel flexing his muscles so I had to capture it and share it with everyone.

This past weekend marked two great openings. This song is one of my favorites and Royksopp is a fantastic group with three powerful albums so far and more to come. The intro was used in the last PaperMonster stencil video.
Several months back I had the opportunity to work alongside Art Whino Gallery to put together a stencil art show featuring some of the most talented stencil artists in the US and abroad. I recently ran into this video shot at the opening of the show. The video teaches 1 valuable lesson: When you sing your name (PaperMonster) to check volume levels…they will use it every time!! Lesson learned. Enjoy.

With the weather getting better everyday, I had the great opportunity to paint along with Leon Rainbow (NJ), Eric Kennedy (PA), Will Kasso (NJ), Jos-L (NJ), Peter Krsko (NJ), and myself PaperMonster (NJ). Albus Cavus (HERE) organized a fantastic installation of murals on the intersections of Courtland Street and Duke Street in New Brunswick, NJ. I had the privilege to paint alongside Will Kasso (HERE) who is an incredibly artist with huge talent for working on any space. PaperMonster is working on some exciting new projects for the summer. One of the exciting projects will be with DirtyPilot.com (HERE) for their upcoming book release featuring incredible artists. I will have more details on the “secret project” soon and I can guarantee that it will be beautiful. This past weekend I received a very nice gift in the mail. The 400ml Project Book (Purchase Here) arrived and I have never seen such a large project in one collection. I have been working on several new ideas and drawings. There is a great upcoming show being put together by Spraygraphic (HERE) that will feature hundreds of mini 4in by 4in by a huge variety of artists. PaperMonster has submitted two small drawings which are working concepts for several new stencil pieces. I just received an amazing package in the mail from my good friend John Koleszar (HERE) It is a massive stencil art piece featuring a beautiful beach scene. The size is massive and the amount of detail is great. John is an extremely talented stencil artist and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next. I was so excited with the gift that I decided to finish a piece that I was working on titled “Breakthrough” and it will be part of several new series and new techniques that I am working on. Make sure to check out more from Koleszar and his solo show which is still open.

This past weekend marked the opening of T & P Fin Art Gallery’s “Cut Copy” stencil group show and it was a great event. The exhibition was mind blowing and all of the artist really brought their best work out. It was great to meet so many people and run into some familiar names in the art world especially El Toro (Here) and JoKa (Here)who dropped by the show and I have been fans of their work from a long time now. El Toro is a sticker animal in Philly and JoKa’s paintings and level of detail is insane. Check out some photos of the nite below.

PM: My work environment is one word “CHAOS.” There is paper everywhere! I sit in the middle of the room and I create a circle where I can reach all around me and grab any supplies I need at any time. I choose everything I do very carefully and there is an entire mindset of controlled chaos. I love creative environment but it is a huge problem to clean up. After I finish one painting, I start the entire process all over again.

This upcoming Friday, February 6th marks the opening of two group shows celebrating stencil art almost halfway across the globe. The “Your Kid Can’t Do This” group show in Australia and the “Cut Copy” group show in Philadelphia are bringing together some of the worlds most talented stencil artists. Being an artist is extremely exciting because your work can be at multiple places at once and you get to touch whole different audience hundreds of miles away.
