Vincent Michael Gallery is proud to present ‘PaperMonster Ate That Little Boy.’ A solo exhibition featuring prolific stencil artist, PaperMonster. The exhibition is on display from July 2nd to July 31st. In honor of PaperMonster’s solo exhibition, Vincent Michael Gallery will be hosting an opening reception Friday, July 2nd from 6pm to 9pm.

To highlight PaperMonster’s personal and artistic growth over the past few years, it was only fitting his solo exhibition with Vincent Michael Gallery be titled ‘PaperMonster Ate That Little Boy.’ PaperMonster’s current oeuvre has taken his signature female images and infused each piece with greater depth, meaning and emotive expression. Each piece is a beautiful combination of layered imagery, textures and colors conveying themes of love, anger, fear, passion and mystery. Several portraits are layered images of women and powerful animals; speaking to the strength, ferocity and power that each women carries within. By continually developing his distinct use of collage, PaperMonster has taken his striking ability to explore facial expressions to new levels.

Guess who got a new camera for his Birthday? ME!!
I have been cutting a bunch of these tiny beautiful flowers for many of the new paintings experimenting with different types of papers and effects.
I ran into this gem of paper while creating the collage work for a new piece.

Monkee Design: PaperMonster Interview

February 8, 2010
I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Monkee Design (HERE) for an interview on all things new and old with my art. Monkee Design is an industrial design and student resource blog and during the interview we discussed everything from my mindset when creating paintings, the materials I use, what shows are in store for 2010, resources for students interested in urban art and stencil graffiti, and advise for young people with the desire to create. My favorite part of the interview is that it goes through some of my past work and you can see the evolution in style and quality of the paintings that has taken place through time. You can read the entire interview for yourself over at Monkee Design: PaperMonster Interview (HERE) or click on any of the image below.
http://www.monkeedesign.com/interviews/2010/2/2/papermonster.html

“I think the main thing is to not limit yourself to what materials you use whether they are physical materials or computer tools and programs. Don’t get stuck in “Oh I only use a certain spray paint brand or Photoshop or Oils,” because you can really box yourself in and prevent some real discoveries for yourself. It helps you we well rounded and better prepared for future opportunities or challenges that may come.” -PaperMonster

“When I first started to paint I had no supplies or resources, and it is the support of people who have purchased my work, provided me with opportunities to show and encouraged me to continue to create that I have been able to make better quality work. I can not thank people enough for how much I appreciate their support. Never forget people that have been by your side since the beginning. “-PaperMonster

“The best piece of advise I can give is: “Take Your Time.” When you are ready then you are ready. I know that sounds like a cliché but it is absolutely true. If you rush your work it will show in the quality. Everyone wants to have solo shows and amazing success but it does not come over night. Take the time to put in a strong effort and people will admire and respect what you do.” -PaperMonster

Art Whino Gallery: Stencil Show Video

April 29, 2009

————————————

Several months back I had the opportunity to work alongside Art Whino Gallery to put together a stencil art show featuring some of the most talented stencil artists in the US and abroad. I recently ran into this video shot at the opening of the show. The video teaches 1 valuable lesson: When you sing your name (PaperMonster) to check volume levels…they will use it every time!! Lesson learned. Enjoy.

Opening Photos: Cut, Copy Tand P Fine Art Gallery Group Show

February 10, 2009
—————————–
This past weekend marked the opening of T & P Fin Art Gallery’s “Cut Copy” stencil group show and it was a great event. The exhibition was mind blowing and all of the artist really brought their best work out. It was great to meet so many people and run into some familiar names in the art world especially El Toro (Here) and JoKa (Here)who dropped by the show and I have been fans of their work from a long time now. El Toro is a sticker animal in Philly and JoKa’s paintings and level of detail is insane. Check out some photos of the nite below.
Thanks to Ren, El Toro and Crystal for the photos!!

Crystal is a very driven artist and it was great to meet her. Catch more of her pictures from the show (HERE)
