These are some pictures from the show we just had. It was curated by an amazing artist (Tory Camp.) She put a lot of time into the planning and I was more than happy to help. The last picture is of all three of us (Jen, Tory, me) after we had painted on the fences and placed the paintings onto them. It was a long night but so work it. Thank you Tory and Jen. Enjoy.

This is my first time being featured in a magazine. I am realy excited for how it came out. The article talks about my history involved with street art and the event I am planning on April 26th at Drew University. It is a muralist and urban artist event and it should be a great time for people to learn and have some hands-on experience with street art forms. If you would like to purchase a copy you can visit: http://www.grindahz.com. Thank you for your support.

These are some final pictures of the new mural in The Space. It took about a week to create mostly because I was waiting for paint markers and other materials in the mail. It is relatively tall and wide and you can tell some of the scale by the first image. It was great to start using my new background patterns and build ontop of that. It creates a powerful effect. Also, the crest is from the University (Drew) but I took it and changed it a little to be more modern and more detailed. The two faces of women are from the late 1950s and early 1960s. As with all of my mural they tell a story. I never go into the process by creating the story of the mural, but there seem to be subconcious choices and images that together tell a short part of my life or what is going on in my mind on an emotional level. It is a new experience every time I finish a mural to see where my mind and hands took me. Now that this project is done I can start to work on my own personal ideas. Stay posted. Enjoy!!!

I have been working really hard the past few days to get a bunch of designs/concepts/patterns done. Last week I took some time to attend the K-Spray NYC Launch for both Logan Hicks and Sixten’s new shoe. It was a great event. Over the weekend I took time to draw up some patterns and think of a couple new concepts. Here are 6 stencils: 3patterns and 3regular stencils. Enjoy.

These are two very large stencils which I have put together to make one scene. Both stencils are about 22″x 28″. So far I have completed about 15 stencils in about 3 weeks. All of the stencils which were small will now be cut as larger stencils and I will start to work on more patterns. Enjoy. and Please Comment.

These are 3 of the new stencils I have been working on. The designs you see are in their most basic form. Once I put them on canvas they will have more detail and background designs. The last image is of Michelangelo’s Mary. check out the original sculpture at: http://www.springhousehotelrome.it/vaticano/eng_s_peter4.html
So many more designs coming soon.
Thank You

My pieces are up for Insanity’s Horse Silent Art Auction!!! I put together about eight pieces for the auction and anyone can bid on them whenever they like during the day as they will be in “THE SPACE.” Insanity’s Horse was one of the first groups to place my art up for public viewing and I thank them for all of their support.

These are some pictures of my door for La Casa Latina’s Door Decorating Contest. My country is Costa Rica this year and I am using the theme of Orchids. I will post pictures of the dorr when it is finished and also the doors of other people who live in La Casa. I am shooting for 2-3rd place.

These are images of three new shirt designs I have been working on. Stay tuned: Winter Line Coming Soon To Online Store. http://www.cafepress.com/vsten

This is a video we put together at the MRC. Hopefully we will be able to get a better quality online soon. So for now enjoy.!!

These are some pictures from the photo station table during the Day of the Dead celebration. It was a great event and I am glad that we get to have it every year. Casilda did a great job organizing everything and it turned out to be one of the biggest turnouts we have had in a long time. Great Job!!

This is a piece I did for the Day Of The Dead Celebration on Oct. 28th. It is about 8 feet high by 5 feet wide. Thanks to Tory for helping me paint. This actual piece is part of the photo station table which I will be running. I will be taking polaroids of people from 1-4pm. Thank you to Casilda for organizing a huge program. I will take pictures of the event and post them later. Enjoy

Here are three new stencils I have been working on these past few days for myself. Enjoy!!

WOw. After a long day of painting all four walls are finally done. I am looking forward to the unveiling. I am proud to show people a part of me and a field in which I am extremely interested in. The actual speed of the project also makes me feel good as I was able to create four distinct murals without ever feeling overwhelmed. I don’t consider myself an artist. I am a stencilist. This project was another way of stretching my imagination and challenging myself to learn new techniques. The walls are an extension of what I am feeling and the experiences that I have been through. Since I can not speak to every person at Drew at one time I figure I can do it through images. People like pictures!!! Enjoy and thank you for all of your support.

Off to the next project. Not sure what it is yet but I am sure it will be interesting.

The date has been set for the unveiling of the four murals. Markit down OCT 25th!!!! I proposed this event for two reasons. 1st: I wanted to have the entire Drew community a chance to see the murals. 2nd: I wanted to find a way that said I officially finished the murals. It should be a good event and a ton of people will be invited. It will also be during Wednesday lunch which is extremely busy. Thank you for all of your support.

It was a pretty long day painting but I was able to get a lot done and the first divider=2murals are DONE. They have been covered up with paper until the day of the unveiling. It should be a great event. Click on image to view larger. R.I.P. Casio Exilim Camera
There is a lot more detail on this wall than there was before. I hope people enjoy it. The mural was very simple before but now it has more of a classic feel to it.
This wall has been on of my favorites to work on. It sets a real intimate feel for the room and the way the lights hit the pink is amazing. You could even create your own story of what is going on in the mural.

Here is a picture of the banner I made for Family Weekend. The good news is that the banner looks pretty nice and really bright pink. The bad news is my camera broke right before taking the picture so we had to use a camera phone. Technology is my friend but it just broke my feelings.
Here is the actual banner outside of the UC. Click on the image to view larger.

WoOW. This is one of the final mural designs for the Commons. There are outlines that you can see on the right hand side which show some of the final touches to the mural. Hopefully I can meet the deadline of next Wednesday and have an unveiling. I have proposed the event for that date and if things go well it should be a great time. As I finish each wall entirely, I will be coverign them up with paper until all four are done. Click on the image to see it larger. Enjoy

***Explanation on the Walls: All four murals are inspired by a wide variety of things. It came up in conversation with a professor that I had inadvertently chosen images from trips and experiences in my life. This was extremely true since I had placed images from my trips to London, China, and Paris. All four walls are a self expression of my voyages and what I have taken away from them. I am truly lucky to have been given the opportunity to travel and it is something I could never repay. Thank You.

Here is a quick update on one of the four murals in the Commons. I worked on the background pattern and the fountain. I wanted to put more detail on the more private sections of the Commons to give it a more intimate feel. There are still a couple of things that need to be done but the bulk of the work has been done. Please Comment. Click on the images to see them larger.

I am doing this new project where I would like people who buy from my online store to send me pictures of what they bought and themselves in interesting poses. You can send me pictures at vgarcia@drew.edu. Here is the first of hopefully many to come: KEEP THEM COMING!!!

For the Commons’s murals I am doing a tribute wall to Ble le Rat. I was extremely lucky to meet Blek while in Paris in 2004. I learned a great deal about cutting stencils and images that people could connect to. He pioneered the use of stencils as street art in the early 1980s. If you would like to see more of his work feel free to go to: http://www.bleklerat.tk/
