Day 7. From that show, one painting stood out the most. At the time I was frantically making so many different pieces, using so many different colors for background and stencils that I really don’t know how I ended up with this combination. Everyone gravitated to the colors. One of the most important things about art is to know and understand your audience. At the time they knew something I didn’t. Day 7. So where did the name PaperMonster come from? While in college I lived in a theme house called “La Casa Latina.” I had no studio and no real place to make art so I would spraypaint and make my paintings in the hallways of the dorm in front of other people’s rooms. One day while painting I heard a song with the lyrics “monstruo de papel” aka “paper monster” and BAMN!! I looked around at the mess I was making and there it was, my new name. Later, Faile @faileart would form the company @papermonsterart with the same name. West and East Coast Shows This Weekend feat. PaperMonster!!!

This weekend is extremely exciting as I will be taking part in group shows on both coast. There are two exhibitions for the release of Stencil Nation, by Russell Howze (www.stencilnation.org) which is an incredible book on stencil art. That is on the West Coast and on the East PaperMonster will be taking part in a show with CryBaby Gallery (HERE) in the beautiful Asbury Park, NJ. Also PaperMonster will be taking part in the incredible show “I am 8-Bit” coming in August which is going to be fantastic. Mompou Restaurant: Solo Exhibition PaperMonster

Earlier this week PaperMonster (myself) went into a rampage of painting. I have been working on group, solo shows, and other design projects for the past couple of weeks. I am doing a small exhibition of works for a restaurant. I will be sending over some pieces to DrityPilot.com to showcase some of the experimental works that I have created before my solo show with them. (very excited about those pieces) PaperMonster will be releasing two new t-shirt designs: one this week and another once DirtyPilot has posted the works in their group show section. Stencil Event feat. PaperMonster

Earlier this week I was invited to Drew University to create some stencils and help with a stencil/muralist event which La Casa Latina (Theme House) was holding for the campus. This free event gave people the opportunity to create t-shirts using stencil and fabric paint to create beautiful pieces of walking art. The weather was fantastic and I brought along some things to demonstrate how more complex stencil pieces are put together. Overall it was a fantastic time and the theme house did a great job of providing a means of self expression for the campus. In addition to the event I was invited by a curator to create several pieces which will be shown in a restaurant name Mompou (located inNewark, New Jersey’s Ironbound District.) The space is incredible and I will post some preview pictures after the hanging next week. Here are some pictures from the stencil art event. Enjoy.

March UPDATES: Tees, Shows, Projects (ADM Skateboards!!)

March is here and it is time to release a new Tee Shirt design. This new shirt is titled “Fury” and it is one of a new set of stencils and paintings that I am working on. There are several new shows in the works including the one group show this Friday at StolenSpace (London) as well as an amazing project working with ADM Skateboards on some skate deck designs. Their story as a company inspirational. ADM gives 5% of their sales to skatepark development and drug awareness programs. “Draw” Group Show at Stolen Space Gallery (London) feat PaperMonster

———————————————————I headed over to Fuse Gallery(NYC) to drop off a drawing for a curated show by Erik Foss and Curse Mackey that will be traveling to Stolen Space Gallery (London.) The show is going to be purely amazing with over 300 artist pieces on display. January was a wild month. The show at Art Whino was fantastic and it was great meeting a ton of people. They have posted the online store w/ 4 paintings that are still up for sale.
